Tents and Sheets (of plastic)
October 2024/Gaza
Providing and restoring shelters is one of the most urgent and essential needs for displaced individuals in areas affected by disasters and wars. Shelters serve as a fundamental factor in keeping families alive amidst changing weather conditions, offering them a small place they can call home—even if simple—where they can feel secure. The lack of such a refuge can lead to devastating trauma that can leave lasting emotional and physical scars.
In this project, we set out to help families who have no shelter at all or are living in deteriorating conditions that fail to protect them from even moderate weather. These families are among the most vulnerable, with no financial means, no connections to anyone abroad who could assist them, and no hope left. What makes our work special is that we appear as an unexpected beacon of light, offering them help when they least expect it, saving them from the unbearable hardship they endure.
Thanks to the kindness of friends, compassionate hearts, and those who believe in humanity, donations were made to give these families a lifeline—helping them hold onto hope as they await a future filled with stability and optimism.
We will share some images that highlight the dire conditions of these shelters, whether due to damage from rain or wear and tear from the sun, as well as our efforts to restore them. Additionally, we have provided new tents or purchased second-hand ones in good condition at lower costs.
To respect the privacy and dignity of the individuals we assist, we cannot showcase all cases, but these examples reflect the extreme hardships faced by those we strive to reach and support.
Yousef has two daughters who suffer from seizures and disabilities that prevent them from taking care of themselves. This presents a significant challenge for Yousef, placing him under immense pressure and responsibility—an unbearable burden for someone already struggling with dire conditions and limited resources. The situation became even more distressing when he lacked a proper shelter to protect his family from the rain and cold, living in a deteriorating and unsafe environment.
We decided to reach out to Yousef and let him know that he is a remarkable father, devoted to his daughters, and that it is our honor and privilege to be a bridge between him and our compassionate donors who are eager to help.
Yousef accepted our offer and chose to purchase a high-quality tent, bringing us immense joy and pride in being a key part of supporting his family and providing them with a safer and more stable shelter.
